Hi, to answer your specific question, you would alphabetize the title as if the number 50 were spelled out, ex: "Fifty Essays" then place it in the correct order.
However, if this is an anthology of essays compiled by an editor, then your citation should begin with the editor's last name. As a result, its filing order will be determined by the editor's last name (eg. Cohen) rather than the first word of the title (Fifty).
For more information, consult the MLA Handbook, 8th ed., p. 23.
Two pages on Purdue OWL's free citation website are especially helpful in this situation:
1. First, go to their MLA Works Cited Page: Basic Format and scroll down to the section "Listing author names".
2. Next, view MLA Works Cited Page: Books and scroll down to the section "Anthology or Collection (e.g. Collection of Essays)".
If you need more help with this, ask a MiraCosta librarian.
