APA (American Psychological Association) citation format is the standard used in the behavioral and social science disciplines to document your research and to avoid plagiarism. In addition to APA, other popular citation styles are MLA and Chicago. No matter which style you use, be sure to follow the strict guidelines and rules for that style.

Using style rules allows the readers of your research to quickly locate the sources you used in your paper or presentation. Most professors will have a preference which citation style they would like you to use based on the course discipline.

Find more information about APA at the MiraCosta College Library's APA Citation Guide and also in our APA Style Handout.
