Searching in the OneSearch often returns a huge number of results. There are some strategies you can use to ensure you're getting the best results for your topic.

Search tips

  • Filter Your Results: In your search results, use the options on the left hand column to limit by availability, resource type, date, subject, library, etc. If this makes your number of search results too small, you can delete the filters you chose.

  • Phrase searchingIf you are searching for a particular phrase, using quotation marks around your search will return results with the words in that particular order, giving you a smaller number of results. e.g. “video games”
  • Advanced Search: Use the Advanced Search option to find a smaller number of results. You can use the drop down menus to only search within the title or the author name, or to limit your search to particular years.
